NaViViewer — Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 17, 2026 (supersedes the June 8, 2026 version)
Who we are
This policy covers the NaViViewer Android app (Google Play package
com.eaglin.naviviewer), developed and published by Dean Eaglin
("we", "us") — the developer named on the app's Google Play listing — and brought to you by
FLX Adventures. Contact: ron.eaglin@gmail.com.
Summary
NaViViewer does not collect any personal information. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party trackers. It is a map viewer: you open a map image and use it like a paper map with a compass and scale bar.
Information we collect
None. The app never asks for your name, email address, contacts, photo library, or location.
Device features the app uses
Compass (magnetometer) sensor
Read in real time to draw the compass needle and to orient the map to north. The reading is used only on your device and is never stored or transmitted. NaViViewer does not use GPS or location services.
Map files you choose
When you open a map from your phone you pick it through the system file picker; the app receives only that one file. It is displayed locally and is not uploaded, copied, or shared.
Network use
The app uses the internet only to fetch maps you ask for and to read the shared map catalog:
- Open from a link — the app downloads the image or PDF from the URL you paste (for example a Google Drive share link) and displays it. Nothing else is sent.
- Map catalog — the app downloads a public list of orienteering maps from punchmonkeyserver.com and then downloads the map you choose from the club's own website. The request contains no personal data or identifiers.
- Calibration contribution (optional) — if a catalog map has no stored scale you may enter one and choose to contribute it. Only two numbers (map scale and DPI) are sent to punchmonkeyserver.com; the contribution is anonymous.
- PunchMonkey hand-off — the PunchMonkey app can pass a map link to NaViViewer, and each app has a button to open the other. Only the map link is exchanged, on your device.
Standard web-server logs (IP address, request path, time) are kept briefly on punchmonkeyserver.com for operations and security. Maps hosted by orienteering clubs are fetched from those clubs' own servers, which have their own policies.
Sharing, selling, retention
We do not share, sell, or rent any information, because the app collects none. Nothing about you is stored on our server. Uninstalling the app removes everything it kept on the device.
Children
NaViViewer is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
Updates will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
